Veggieblog Spotlight!

Alright, so I’ve been searching far and wide, upwards and downwards for some blogs that are useful for us, the everyday Veggies. Ready for the list? I know that I am. You can also find these links on the side of my page until the blogroll.

Vegan and Cheap
– With a name like this, who DOESN’T want to click this link? I stumbled upon the blog while searching WordPress for vegan blogs. As soon as I clicked, I was in love. This blog is great for anyone who, like me, is poor but still wants to eat healthy and vegetarian/vegan. Yes, I admit that a Veg diet is generally cheaper than a meat-eating diet, especially these days (Oy, Vey!) but I always like to save money. My favorite is the coupon for Rice Dream ice cream bars.

Vegan? I’ll eat it! – This blog is a veritable dreamworld of Vegan product research and review, or rather, it will be in a few more posts. I salute you, Vegan tasting Blogger, for a job well done and a very well-written blog for all of us out here that might not be as adventurous. Those companies should be paying you for all the work you do! There aren’t many posts just yet, but it looks like this blog is off to a great start and will soon be a resource for all of us who want to know “How the heck, is that Tofurky stuff, anyway?

Vegan in Disney World – My first thought when visiting this blog: Uh HELLO! I’m a HUGE Disney fan, this is totally the blog for me. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m Disney World obsessed. I’ve been probably close to 15 times, even though I don’t have the money for it… still, I shell out the cash and enjoy myself with my my family. This blog is perfect, since I haven’t actually gone since I went Veg, so this will be a great resource for my next few hundred visits.

Green Circle Press
– Another WordPress blog that features Raw foods, Etsy finds, and of course, THIS picture. This woman posts like crazy, so if you’re looking for a blog that will constantly have new features and info, look no further. And it doesn’t hurt that the posts will make you laugh until your sides split. O, George Ohr!

Eggless Cooking – This is probably the most well-known blog on this list. It features beautiful images and delicious recipes for Eggless cooking. Hopefully you’ll be able to find some of the recipes that you can enjoy day to day.

I plan to *hopefully* continue updating this list. There will be a link category featured that has only Veg blogs on it. Seriously, it only take a few seconds to click these links and check out these blogs. If you don’t like ’em then, hey! At least you gave them a chance. If you FO like them, then HEY You just found a new blog to follow and you’ll be as happy as a *vegetarian* Clam, m’kay?

A New Look for Dolce Cakes

Let’s just say that it’s due time that Dolce Cakes found it’s identity.

More often than not, one would view DC and see it as just a baking blog. Perhaps a place for its owner to post beautiful pictures of her baked goods, a place to see some good food. DC has been the host of INK and the home for the occasional rant about nerdiness. Perhaps this post can be the turning point for the blog. It’s coming into its own and developing its personality as we speak.

Dolce Cakes is a vegetarian baking blog. Dedicated to promoting the respect and preservation of animals and their integrity. Determined to improving the awareness of its viewers to the reality of meat farming and of course to provide a good deal of vegetarian recipes. DC will primarily be a blog centered around baking but may occasionally provide information on savory vegetarian dishes.

You may have noticed little changes here and there over the last week. I’ve been redesigning the look of DC to improve its navigation and accessibility. Tags and categories have been added. Posts have been weeded, archived and in some cases, consolidated to make browsing easier. Please feel free to let me know if these things are either not helpful, not working or just plain annoying.

I look forward to sharing my opinions. If I cannot share them on my own blog, where can I share them? If you are faint of heart, you may not want to hear some of the things that DC might be reporting. If you are a meat lover and die-hard Veggie hater, you may also want to try to get your baking fix elsewhere. If you feel as though you want me to shut up or stop posting about vegetarianism and animal torture, then feel free. I will take your comments into consideration and may or may not alter my content.

The new blog schedule is as follows:
New blogs will be posted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Weekly updates on baking will be posted on Saturday.

Thanks very much for reading this, I appreciate each view that this blog gets, each reader that reads these words and hope that perhaps some of what I say doesn’t go in one ear and out the other. I hope that I can increase the awareness of the truths of this country’s eating habits and the risks involved. If I can help one person, that will be enough for me.

Homemade Nilla cookies

Here are some images and the recipe for my own personal take on the Nilla cookie that I grew up with and am soo darned fond of.

Orange Nillas

Orange Nillas

Ingredients:

4 Tbsp Milk
1 c. Butter
1 c. Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 c. Cornmeal
1 c. AP Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
Zest of Whole orange, Juice of half
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Salt

Cream the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, combining well after each addition. Next, incorporate the vanilla and orange zest. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Begin to add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk and orange juice, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix well.

Spoon onto a parchment lined cookie sheet by teaspoonfuls. These babies will spread like crazy, so give them space. Bake in an oven at 375 for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are browned. Let them cool completely and enjoy with tea or milk.

Enjoi!

Dear Martha Stewart,

In 8th grade I remember making fun of Martha. Little did I know, I would be reading her Magazine routinely and making her featured recipes and even *thinking* about making her Christmas decorations. I know. I’ve turned to the sweetside.. It would have happened a little earlier if I had just let myself succumb to the wonderful baked goods and colored papers inside those pages of Living mag. The only saving grace that I can find is that I know that there’s no way that Martha writes and makes all this junk on her own. She pays many many talented people to come up with these things to share with us, and luckily… they do just that. They bring us beautiful holidays and delicious cookies and wonderful photography (another perk of having bukoodegobs of cash in your pocket.. thanks to insider trading.

NONETHELESS! I have made two of Martha’s pies for Thanksgiving. Sadly. And they were delicious.

Pumpkin Pie: Here —– Actually.. I had my Fiancee make this pie to practice his baking skills. He rocked. Scroll down for an exclusive pic of him in his delicious apron.
